Kawartha Works Community Co-op

Represented by Jim Armstrong

Kawartha Works Community Co-op wins the Partnership Award for their extensive efforts to support the development of The Loft youth drop-in program in Fenelon Falls. KWCC has provided unwavering leadership, insights, connections and have helped raise money to support the program.

 

City of Kawartha Lakes Council

Represented by Mayor Doug Elmslie

Partnership Award for their support for the expansion of youth drop-in at our Youth Warehouse Lindsay and the establishment of the new youth drop-in program in Fenelon Falls. The city’s contribution has been vital to allow us to meet the basic costs of these programs.

 

Kathleen Hales, Women’s Resources

Kathleen has shown exceptional dedication to youth well-being through her consistent support of our Mental Health Monday program and her initiative in providing on-demand counseling. By offering timely, accessible support, she has built meaningful relationships with youth, reduced barriers to mental health care, and strengthened our culture of belonging.

 

Volunteer Awards

 

Lee Munnings, Adult Volunteer of the Year

Lee has made an incredible impact on both the youth and staff at the Warehouse. What truly sets Lee apart is the way she intentionally builds meaningful relationships with each youth. Week after week, she listens with care, remembers details about their lives, and makes every young person feel seen, heard, and valued. Her presence has helped create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere at the Warehouse—one that feels like home.

 

Trey Conlin, Youth Volunteer of the Year

Trey was a former participant club programs and was very excited to return as a volunteer. Trey is very dedicated and rarely misses a scheduled day; even checking in on snow days to ask if we are opened or cancelled. Trey makes all children feel welcome and gives a sense of belonging by being such a warm, kind and approachable individual.

 

Staff Service Awards

 

Denise Miller, 10 years

Denise has been an important part of our daily operation.  Denise is the smiling face parents and children see when arriving to after school or full day programs.  Denise knows all of the parents and children by name. If Denise is absent the children want to know where she is and when she will return.

 

Alisha Chapman, 20 years (absent)

Alisha is recognized for 20 years of outstanding dedication, leadership, and passion in shaping exceptional child care programs for our children and families. A true life-long learner and energetic force, Alisha leads by example—always striving to improve, always moving forward, and rarely standing still.

 

Robert Cyr, 25 years

Rob is a dedicated and long-serving leader at BGC Kawarthas, making a lasting impact on the organization and the communities it serves. As the Manager of Community Services, he has played a pivotal role in expanding and strengthening programs, overseeing Sports and Recreation, Community Development (including short-term rentals and the PEAK Climbing Wall), Full-Day programs, and new initiatives in the Peterborough area. He has also been instrumental in securing external funding through successful grant applications, helping to enhance services and facilities.

 

Laurie Bastin, 30 years

Laurie Bastin is a dedicated and invaluable member of BGC Kawarthas, demonstrating outstanding leadership, commitment, and service throughout her tenure. She has played a pivotal role in ensuring the Club’s operations run smoothly while fostering a culture of excellence and inclusivity.

Laurie’s impact extends deeply into customer service and family engagement, where she seamlessly manages the registration program, handles inquiries with professionalism and care, and serves as a key liaison between service staff, volunteers, participants, families, and community members. She is a steadfast advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring these principles remain at the heart of the Club’s operations.  Through her unwavering dedication, expertise, and leadership, Laurie Bastin has made a lasting impact on BGC Kawarthas.

Broghan has been a dedicated member of the Foundation Board of Directors for 5 years, member of the Governance Committee, and currently serves the Board Secretary.
