BGC Kawarthas Secures $30,000 Grant from The Commonwell’s L.E.A.F. Program

We are thrilled to announce a $30,000 grant from The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group’s Learning Engagement & Accelerator Fund (L.E.A.F.) for its “Let’s Get Physical” Space Renewal project. This funding empowers us to modernize the large gymnasium in our Lindsay establishment which is used by all Club programs as well as by the community at large, and to add equipment to the Youth Warehouse’s Mini Planet Fitness Centre.

“It’s no surprise that physical activity is one of the most cited benefits of Club programs as a result of the daily games, sports or fitness we incorporate into after school programming for children and youth,” says Amy Terrill, our Executive Director.  “Thanks to The Commonwell’s L.E.A.F. Grant, we can continue to grow our impact on physical fitness – a key determinant of health and wellbeing in communities, as we enhance our Lindsay facility with much-needed safety improvements and equipment.”

Administered by The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group, the L.E.A.F. program invested $350,000 in grants this year, scaling from previous years. Tim Shauf, President of The Commonwell, emphasizes the program’s impact, stating, “We received over $2.7 million in funding requests this year, highlighting its crucial role in supporting communities. We believe in fostering strength and resilience within the communities we serve, and this year’s projects are positioned to make a lasting positive impact.”

L.E.A.F.’s mission is simple: cultivate community resilience and capacity through program development and facility/resource upgrades in places where residents learn, play, engage, and gather.
