Expansion of Youth Services to Fenelon Falls

BGC Kawarthas currently serves over 400 unique youth between the ages of 12 – 25 in Lindsay at the Youth Warehouse, serving 3 of the 4 area high school populations.   In collaboration with partners in the community, including the Kawartha Works Community Co-operative (KWCC), BGC Kawarthas is looking to expand similar programming to Fenelon Falls.

Who will we serve?

Young people aged 12 – 25 who reside in Fenelon Falls and the surrounding areas (the Northern portion of CKL)

  • High School Students: Providing support with academics, career guidance, and personal development.
  • Young Adults: Supporting with job readiness, housing assistance, and life skills.
  • Vulnerable Youth: Including those facing challenges such as homelessness, mental health issues, or social isolation.
  • Community Members: Engaging youth in community activities and leadership opportunities to foster civic responsibility and social engagement.

What will we offer?

Youth drop-in & recreation 2 days/week to start to include:

  • Meals and nutrition
  • Youth Mental Health & Wellness programs
  • Physical Fitness
  • Queer Youth Kawartha Lakes
  • Academic support

Anticipated Youth Outcomes:

The expected outcomes for youth with expanded youth services through BGC Kawarthas would be:

  1. Youth and their families are more connected to their community.
  2. Youth risk factors are reduced as they have access to a safe place more often, and protective factors are increased as they have opportunity to connect with caring adults and engage positively with their peers.
  3. Youth are connected to relevant and beneficial services.
  4. Improved life skills and executive functioning skills.
  5. Improved wellness as youth have increased access to physical recreation, health food, and through workshops they learn the negative effects of vaping, substance use and gambling addiction.
  6. Enhanced academic outcomes, improved physical health, and reduction of anti-social behaviours, alcohol, drug consumption, and rates of addiction.
  7. Overall, improved service delivery for diverse youth.
  8. Increased engagement of youth and participation in decisions impacting them.
