Planet Fitness franchise builds “judgement free” fitness centre within BGC Kawarthas
A local Planet Fitness franchise group has partnered with us to build a Mini Judgement Free Zone in Lindsay, marking the first of its kind in the region.
The new fitness centre within our Lindsay building was donated by Planet Fitness franchise group, the Taymax Group, and unveiled as a surprise to the kids on November 15 with club staff, club youth, and Taymax representatives.
Featuring Planet Fitness’ signature purple and yellow colours and branded equipment, the 900 square-foot mini fitness centre replicates the judgement free environment of Planet Fitness clubs with seven pieces of cardio equipment and accessories including medicine balls and yoga mats. It will provide youth members ages 13 and older with the ability to exercise in an inclusive and encouraging workout environment, without the risk of being judged or bullied.
“We’re grateful to Planet Fitness for their partnership in enabling us to offer enhanced fitness opportunities to kids who come through the doors of our Youth Warehouse,” said Amy Terrill, Executive Director of BGC Kawarthas. “Not only is physical fitness a key factor in health and wellbeing, but it’s commonly cited by the youth themselves as an area of need. In our efforts to build skills and confidence for life, this new fitness space will be an excellent addition.”
The unveiling is an extension of Planet Fitness’ national philanthropic initiative, The Judgement Free Generation®, designed to help end bullying, build youth self-confidence through fitness, and spread inclusivity and kindness.
Bullying has become an all-too-common issue in today’s society. Together with BGC Canada, the nation’s leading youth development organization, Planet Fitness provides BGC youth with access to safe, welcoming spaces where they can build lasting, healthy habits through fitness. “We’re proud to have this opportunity to work with the BGC Kawarthas and provide a welcoming and accepting place for all Club youth to work out and stay active, further enhancing the amazing services the Club offers to the community,” said Rudy Petrillo, Taymax Group representative. “I personally grew up in this area and it’s inspiring to see a non-intimidating, accessible workout space open for local kids.”
