Steve grew up right here in Lindsay. Having owned, operated, cooked for, and made famous, the Durham Cafe for 25 years; Steve was interested in mastering something new. In 2015 Steve joined Stewart Morrison Insurance, successfully completed his RIBO license winning the Don Lambie award for receiving the highest mark in Ontario for that year! Dr. Manju Asdhir, Director
Manju Asdhir joined the BGC Kawarthas of Directors in October 2019. Manju is a Chiropractor and owns an Award Winning multi-disciplinary clinic, Kawartha Care Wellness Centre, in Lindsay which she started in 2011.
After pursuing her healthcare aspirations and becoming a mom herself, Manju started working with several organizations that aim to give all children the best start to life, such as Let's Talk Science & The Youth Quality Club. Manju also started changing her focus from orthopedic patients to a younger (and possibly cuter!) demographic, as she saw the shift in parents seeking more drug-free treatment options for their young children’s aches and pains.
Having grown up in an immigrant household in Mississauga, she understands how financial insecurity, lack of knowledge of resources, and even cultural differences can be so defining to a child’s success. This was one of the main reasons she was so keen on joining the Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes, to hopefully help to give back to the community and the array of children from differing backgrounds. Manju truly believes from her own experiences as a mother and also from the families she is blessed to work with that (now more than ever), “it takes a village to raise our children.”
Besides her love for her profession and passion to give back to the community, Manju loves cycling, teaching yoga, being a business mentor, paddle boarding and working in the beautiful City of Kawartha Lakes!

Laraine Hale, Director
Laraine joined the BGC Kawarthas board in October 2020. Laraine is a woman of mixed ancestry (English, Irish, Cherokee and Haudensaunee). A mother, daughter, sister, and auntie, Laraine began her ‘career’ in her place at the dinner table. The seventh of eight children, Laraine learned early the value of ‘listening’ (probably because she couldn’t get a word in edgewise!). This habit gave way to understanding the wealth of diversity that exists in perception, beliefs and understanding. Wishing to expand on these skills she gained her ‘formal’ training in Social Work, completing her undergraduate degree in Social Work at the University of Western and her graduate studies through Wilfrid Laurier University. Laraine learned about systems, safety, diversity, advocacy and culture. Putting these teachings into practice, Laraine has spent over 30 years investing in the lives of individuals, families, groups and communities through her work as clinician, supervisor, educator and consultant in the fields of Child Welfare, Mental Health, Indigenous Mental Health and Education. These experiences inform and inspire Laraine’s investment in the lives of individuals, families, groups and First Nation, Metis and Inuit communities where she continues to listen, share and learn.
Laraine proudly parents her eighteen year old son, Tyghe, who now surpasses her in height, wit and electronic prowess. He keeps her humble and humoured. Laraine especially enjoys her time gathering with her parents 91 and 87 "through the window". They have been married for 66 years and continue to stimulate, amuse, encourage and inspire her.
Laraine is currently employed with Fleming College as a Personal Wellness Counsellor, teaches part-time at Trent University and has a small private practice.
